Terms of Use

2026-09-19

This is a functional draft, not a final legal opinion. It is written to accurately describe what SwissLearn does today, not generic boilerplate — but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer.

SwissLearn ("we", "the app") is a language-learning application for Swiss German (Zürich-area dialect). These Terms govern your use of the app. By creating an account you agree to them.

SwissLearn is in an early, pre-commercial stage. Every feature currently labelled "Plus" is free for all users while the product is getting started (see the banner on your dashboard) — nothing on this page should be read as a promise that this stays free forever.

1. Who can use SwissLearn

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. This is a self-declaration you make at sign-up (a checkbox), not something we verify with an ID or a parental-consent flow. If you are under 16, please do not create an account.

2. Your account

You can sign in with GitHub, Google, or a passwordless magic link sent to your email. We rely on the provider (GitHub/Google) or on access to your inbox (magic link) to confirm you own the account — we do not independently verify identity beyond that.

You are responsible for keeping access to your GitHub/Google account or email inbox secure, since that is how sign-in works here.

3. What you submit to SwissLearn

Some features ask you to write things: the Writing exercise (you submit a short text in the target language) and the Conversation exercise (you chat with an AI-played character). See our Privacy Policy for exactly which third-party AI providers process that text, and why.

You keep ownership of what you write. By submitting it, you grant us a licence to store it and send it to the AI providers listed in the Privacy Policy, solely to generate the feedback or conversation reply that feature is built to give you.

Don't submit anything through Writing or Conversation that you wouldn't want processed by a third-party AI model — real names, addresses, health information, financial details, or anything else sensitive about yourself or someone else. These fields aren't designed to hold that kind of data, and we can't fully control what happens to it once it leaves us for the AI provider's systems.

4. AI-generated content isn't professional advice

Grammar corrections, conversation replies, mistake explanations, and example sentences in SwissLearn are generated by third-party large language models. They can be wrong, inconsistent, or occasionally miss the specific quirks of Swiss German dialects (which have no single standardized spelling — see the app's content notes). Treat AI feedback as a study aid, not as a certified translation or a linguistics credential.

If you spot a word, phrase, or piece of content that looks wrong for your dialect, you can flag it from within the app (content report) — it's reviewed by hand, not auto-corrected.

5. SwissLearn Plus and payments

SwissLearn Plus (unlimited hearts, streak protection, priority pronunciation practice) is currently included for every account at no charge, while the product is in its early stage. Billing infrastructure (via Stripe) exists in the codebase but is switched off — nobody is being charged today.

If we ever turn on paid plans, we will update this section with pricing, billing terms, cancellation, and refund policy before charging anyone, and — if that includes selling to users in the European Union — we will complete the additional VAT/OSS and consumer-protection review that a real launch requires (not covered by this draft; see the report accompanying this document).

6. Acceptable use

Don't use SwissLearn to abuse the sign-in system (e.g. automated mass account creation), to send content through Writing/Conversation intended to attack, extract data from, or otherwise misuse the underlying AI systems, or to interfere with other users' access to the service.

7. Ending your account

You can request deletion of your account at any time from Settings, without contacting us. Your writing and conversation text is deleted immediately when you request this; the rest of your account (progress, quiz history, sign-in methods) is permanently deleted a short grace period later, so a mistaken request can still be cancelled. See our Privacy Policy for the exact timeline.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate section 6.

8. Limitation of liability

SwissLearn is provided "as is", during an early-stage, evolving product. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including reliance on AI-generated content described in section 4.

9. Governing law

[Placeholder — governing law and dispute-resolution venue have not been finalized. A lawyer should set this based on where the operator is actually established and which users are targeted, before this document is relied on commercially.]

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the product changes. We'll update the "last updated" date above; material changes (like turning on payments) will be called out more prominently.
